How to stop chasing leads and attract clients

If you’re here, I know you’re done feeling like a door-to-door salesperson in your own business. You don’t want to chase leads, slide into strangers’ DMs, or send “just circling back!” emails that make your skin crawl. You want to attract clients instead.

The ultimate goal is that they come to you already interested and ready to buy, because they found the exact info they needed on your website when they searched for it.

That’s what we’re talking about today. How to attract clients who are pre-sold and ready to work with you.

And no, this isn’t about posting 26 times a day on social media or using pushy tactics that feel gross. We’re keeping it professional, strategic, and true to who you are.

So, here’s what’s on the menu:

TL;DR

Chasing clients is exhausting and ineffective. This guide shows you how to write clear messaging that attracts premium clients who are ready to buy. No cold DMs, no awkward follow-ups, no burnout. You’ll learn how to position yourself as the go-to expert and build a system that actually works.

Why chasing clients kills your sales (and what to do instead)

Imagine walking into a store where the salesperson immediately comes up to your face, follows you around and says, “You’d look SO good in this, here’s why you should buy it < insert a list of compliments to groom you and make you feel you owe her for being kind>, please buy it?”.
You’d probably back away slowly, right? Well, personally, I’d immediately leave the store and never return!

That’s what chasing leads feels like on the receiving end. It’s obvious the sales person is desperate for a sale…

Your messaging should attract people who want what you offer, not corner people who aren’t interested.

People are drawn to experts who own their worth. Not to those who scream the loudest in the online void, trying to prove their worth (because this gives desperate vibes).

Since you’re reading this, I’m guessing the strategies you’ve been using or studying haven’t been matching your values. And I get it because I’ve been through that.

I invested in myself and my business through coaches who sold themselves as experts, only to realise (once I had joined and paid thousands) that their methods were not at all aligned with my vision of marketing, sales or even business!

I first thought there was something wrong with me, because everyone was doing it. So I tried to stick around and listen…

But I could never get to cold DM anyone or just start conversations by copying and pasting the same “Hi, I love what you posted! I see you’re a coach, how long have you been doing this for?” to everyone I thought could be a good fit…

To me, this is everything but authentic.

Be clear about who you help and how you help them. Let your expertise speak through your website, your content, your entire online presence.

When your messaging is clear and your website shows up when people search for solutions, clients come to you already half-sold.

How to write a marketing message that attracts the right people

If your messaging is vague, like “I help people grow their business”, you’re invisible.

This type of message doesn’t make people pause and think “oh this is for me”. It’s too broad and vague, you’ll need more marketing efforts. And I’m sure you’d rather avoid going back and forth in the DMs explaining why you’re the one who can help.

You’d rather post and trust that your messaging will get you serious prospects who are likely to become your clients.

And to do that, you need to ask yourself:

  • Who is my ideal client, really? (Not just demographics and their favorite brand of cereals… but their struggles and desires)
  • What problem keeps them up at night?
  • Why would they choose me over a competitor?

Clear messaging attracts. Vague messaging gets ignored. The more specific your messaging, the more your clients will think, “Wow, this is EXACTLY what I need!”

Here’s what my client Louise said after doing this exercise:

“This was an absolute game-changer for my business!

Before using it, I felt stuck—struggling to define exactly who I was speaking to and why my messaging wasn’t landing. This worksheet walked me through every detail, helping me get crystal clear on my ideal client’s needs, desires, and struggles.

Now, I don’t just create content—I speak directly to the women who truly need my Style Coaching™ services.

My confidence in my brand has skyrocketed as a result. If you’re serious about refining your client attraction strategy, this worksheet is non-negotiable!”

Once you’re clear on your ideal client avatar, it’s time to position yourself as the go-to expert in your industry.

Why being the obvious choice matters more than being the cheapest

Ready-to-buy clients aren’t looking for tips, they’re looking for a solution.

They’ve already googled their problem, they’ve tried the free advice, it didn’t work so now they want someone who can actually fix it.

If all you post is “3 tips for XYZ”, you’re blending in with every other person giving surface-level advice.

You’re not Google, you’re not a friend handing out casual suggestions. You’re the expert who solves the problem.

When you step into that role, everything changes.

Trust me, I’ve been there, I had practically swallowed a “how-to dictionary”… But those posts didn’t attract clients… and my business growth moved at a snail’s pace.

Side note: this also helped my impostor syndrome. Paradoxically enough, the more specific I became, the less impostor syndrome showed up.

When you start owning your expertise (sharing bold opinions, deep insights, and undeniable proof), you become the go-to choice clients want to hire “yesterday”.

Here’s how to show your expertise:

  • Have a clear, unique point of view (unpopular opinions are welcome)
  • Share insights that actually help people see their problem differently (not the same vanilla tips everyone teaches)
  • Speak with confidence (people trust certainty)

And here’s the thing: your website should do this too.

Most websites are generic and say the same things everyone else says. They don’t show up when people search and when people do land on them, they don’t communicate why you’re the right choice.

Experts don’t chase, they attract

How to use content (including your website) to bring in clients

Let’s be real here… Your content should bring in leads while you’re doing literally anything else. But that won’t happen if your content is scattered, generic, or buried where no one can find it.

Side note: when I first started my business in 2016, I knew that attracting clients through website content only was possible… Some coaches whom I thought knew better told me it wasn’t possible and I bought that Instagram course instead of sticking to my certitude. I wasted time and proved them wrong.

To create client-attracting content, you need to focus on:

  • Solving real problems (not just sharing fluff or surface-level “here’s a tip” content)
  • Speak to people who are ready to make a decision, not just browsing

Quality over quantity. One powerful piece of content is better than 100 forgettable posts, because the right words do the selling for you.

Oh and while we’re here, let’s bust another cringy myth… More content = more followers = more clients…
This couldn’t be further away from the truth!

If your content isn’t specific, clear or showing your authority:

  • you might have more followers if you post more… (And I’m pretty sure you’re not too excited about that idea)
  • you might get more likes…

But last time I checked, likes don’t pay the bills! And not all followers turn into clients if you’re not targeting your ideal leads and if your content is generic

Most websites sit there doing nothing, looking nice, but not bringing in clients.

That’s when your website actually does its job: attracting clients while you’re working, sleeping, or living your life.

Here’s what my client Sharon said after taking the messaging lesson that’s inside Sold Out SEO.

I’m blown away! Morgane guided me through the entire lesson without overwhelming me.

She provided clear instructions on how to tweak my posts and explained exactly why I should present certain ways to attract my ideal clients.

I’ve already updated a few of my older posts to practice, and I can’t express how valuable this has been.

I just wish I had signed up earlier!

Your offer isn’t the problem… your messaging is.

Before you go and create a new offer at a lower price because your current one isn’t attracting as many clients as you thought it would… pause.

Your offer itself is not the problem (that’s rarely the case), and your pricing is not the issue either.

I can guarantee it’s your messaging! Because anything can sell (ever heard of people selling their old dirty socks and making a lot of money? If that kind of garbage can sell, your offer definitely can!)

So here’s the thing: you can attract all the leads in the world, but if they don’t see the value of your offer, they won’t buy.

  • Your offer speaks to an urgent need.
  • The outcome is obvious (no “I help with X” but “I help (ideal client) achieve (specific result) without (biggest frustration)”).
  • You show why it’s valuable and matters now.

Once your messaging is clear and your offer makes sense, the next step is making sure the right people actually find you.

Set up a lead-generation system that works for you

Setting up a system to attract clients while you’re off living your life

Last but not least: stop relying on hustle. It’s time to stop chasing the next social media trend to please an algorithm that changes as often as the weather in Northern France (and that says something).

Chasing trends or the next strategy is a rabbit hole, been there, done that. So I’m here to save you time!

Instead, you need to set up a system that brings in leads consistently, even when you’re off living your life and taking a walk in the park at 2pm.

This could be:

  • An email funnel that nurtures and sells
  • Referral strategies that bring in pre-sold clients
  • Pinterest for long-term visibility

Sold Out SEO teaches you all of that: from getting clear on who your ideal client is, to making your website easy to find, to writing copy that sells, and learning the long-term visibility strategy that feels like a good fit for you.

No follow-unfollow games, no spending hours engaging under people’s posts just for the sake of popularity if that drains you. And you’ll be ditching the social media influencer model we’ve all been sold.

Everything you publish should work for you, not the other way around. The golden rule inside Sold Out SEO is to follow your own rules, stop comparing yourself to others or doubting your strategy.

When I realized that everything I was taught was simply not for me, I stopped making myself feel wrong for not doing like everyone else.

And once I ditched all the advice that wasn’t aligned with my values, my nervous system relaxed, my content became more effective and prospects started flowing in effortlessly.

FAQ: How to Attract Clients Instead of Chasing Leads

It depends on your current messaging and positioning. Some clients see results within weeks once they dial in their messaging. The key is getting clear on who you’re talking to and what makes you the obvious choice.

Authority doesn’t mean being pushy or arrogant. It means owning your expertise and sharing insights that help people make decisions. The more you step into it, the easier it gets (and the less impostor syndrome shows up).

Absolutely. But use it on your terms. No follow-unfollow games or spending hours engaging just for the algorithm. Focus on content that speaks to your ideal client’s problems and positions you as the solution.

SEO takes 3-6 months to gain traction, but you’ll start seeing traffic within weeks if you follow the strategy. The messaging and website copy improvements? Those can start bringing in clients immediately once they’re live.
